Seems that Ag and food industry is being reduced 2 just "a biz", shows that pollies don't value the environment or comunities involved.
Great column Sam. In our business we have eliminated unnecessary overheads, improved our grazing management to reduce variable costs and have made a profit every year for the last five.
To the negative sticks in the mud out there in quote John Maynard Keynes: "The difficulty lies not in accepting new ideas, but escaping from old ones."
There are some of us out here who have found new farming methods that reduce our costs and reduce our risk. We focus on what we can control and keep our cost of production low so that profits are more easily achieved.
Farmers have been chasing increased production for decades with ever increasing inputs. Perhaps we should take a step back and look at planning profit into our businesses rather than the production that fills the pockets of those selling the inputs first.
Gillard is on the nose with most of Australia.
We do not need elephants. Large herds of cattle and/or sheep grazing at high density before moving on so the land can rest and recover can do the same job. I suggest the professor and the anti agriculture idiots read the works of Allan Savory in their entirety to enlighten themselves.
There is also French research showing that human exposure to glyphosate has caused placenta problems. Another reason to consider glyphosate your foe.
As a farmer in the NSW Southern Tablelands it was a novelty to see a Kangaroo 25 years ago. Nowdays we see groups of over 100 travelling through our farm on a regular basis. They graze out any rested country where we try to save feed for our livestock and they do alot of damage to our fences. So i think Ms Rhiannon should take a look around her and let the sustainable harvesting of kangaroos continue because the populations around here need to be controlled.
If 97% of the engineering community told you that a bridge was unsafe and likely to collapse and should not be crossed would you cling to the opinion of the 3% minority and cross that bridge ? That is essentially what is happening in the climate debate.
Katrina is a great local member and it would be good to see her in the next government.
