Uh, you should check your facts. Bahrain did not 'totally replace' Aus live with Aus boxed, and Lee Rhiannon knows it. They upped their boxed meat yep, and they also upped their intake of boxed meat from North Africa, as well as thousands of live sheep from Somalia. Added bonus, African sheep have Rift Valley fever which kills humans. Trying to whitewash it by pretending that Bahrain only took safe and healthy Aus boxed meat is a little too convenient.
Alex Hodges, stop projecting. 98pc of farms in Australia are family owned and run, not massive corporation farms you're worried about. Notice that no-one is saying to get rid of whistleblower and cruelty laws. They're suggesting that people breaking into property to covertly film without your knowledge "JUST IN CASE" you do something wrong, is creepy and shouldn't happen.
"So if Bahrain did in fact get sheep elsewhere it certainly wasn't sheep that they would normally get live from Australia." You're absolutely right Sue Head. The sheep with diseases that kill humans certainly aren't what they would get from Australia. If a country cannot get their first choice (i.e. disease-free live from Aus), they will get it from elsewhere to get sufficient meat to feed their people.
I don't partake in the xenophobic arguments that Animal Rights groups so often go in for. The message is "We care about the animals, just as long as they're Australian animals".
Bahrain increased their boxed Aus meat yes - they also took 100,000 LIVE animals from Somalia. North African sheep have viruses that kill humans. Tell me again about the compassion we're meant to be showing the world, by letting countries take diseased livestock because that's more convenient for us sleeping at night?
Getting rid of duplication doesn't mean watering down. Stepping off the soap box, any policy that's put in place quickly will have needless doubling-up, which is taking up the time of the people who have to sift through the same repetitive information. This means that they are actually wasting time they could spend on getting things done, by re-reading the same document however many times. Getting indignant about a process that happens to any new regulation just comes across as looking for anything to point and shout at.
