100% vegan, your comment is so outlandish that I can't begin to articulate the consequences of your suggestion.

Perhaps the Greens leader & senator should read the ESCAS legislation a little more closely. "Same level of regulatory oversight" is exactly what its introduction & implementation is all about.
Kenty, that is exactly what Senator Chris Back is proposing - that any 'footage' of alleged or imagined mistreatment be handed to the proper authorities (& not an activist or media organisation) in a timely manner, so that investigations can be conducted forthwith. http://parlinfo.aph.gov.au/parlIn fo/search/display/display.w3p;que ry%3DId%3A%22legislation%2Fbillho me%2Fs994%22;rec=0 "This Bill is designed to minimise unnecessary delays in the reporting of malicious cruelty to animals".
Calling anyone, who is running a legal & legitimate business a criminal IS defamation & slanderous. As Mr Christensen & many others have stated - there is no other live exporting country in the world being held to account as are AU exporters, nor are those countries investing in market, which is making a massive difference. Way to go activists - slander the very people who feed us!
I hope everyone reads (or pls re-read) & understands paragraph 2 of this article...........
"The fledgling Animal Justice Party says it’s against animal cruelty atrocities relating to wildlife destruction, factory farming, animal transportation, companion and domestic animals, pet animals and the use of animals for sport and entertainment". No sane person condones cruelty. I don't know how many households in AU have a pet family member, but I'm guessing they may feel somewhat troubled by this stance.

What about the customers & what they want Mr Wilkie? I'd imagine that if you can't obtain the item you want from a particular supplier, then you'd look elsewhere for it, wouldn't you, instead of purchasing a product that doesn't meet your needs? I think, as a customer, I would be offended, if I was told that I must buy a frozen chook to feed my family, when what I really wanted, was day old chicks so that I could grow them out, then consume at a time of my choosing.
