Bottom line for wool is that it's still too scratchy and uncomfortable when compared with it's opposition. Marketing will not change that, perhaps research and processing will but until it can compete with other fibres the marketing budget is a waste of money.
Could you please stop quoting Barnaby when he says things like this? It is just not credible that a single beast will cost the abattoirs $575k and surely he's been misquoted. If the quote is correct then he shouldn't be in a position of influence. Just silly stuff.
Let's not go on bashing the Feds over this when the whole mess is a result of state governments giving water llocations that just were not in the river. I recall dairy farmers boasting about getting 150% of allocation and then complaining later that they only got 120% of allocation. Come on fellows, get real and acknowledge that you were in clover as a result of state governments' incompetancy and the Feds are now the fall guys trying to redress the mess.
Be extremely careful about citing percentage increases, especially for northern Victoria which has been in free fall for some years so that a percentage increase there means close to nothing. In fact quoting percentage changes anywhere is problematic except in the case of Tasmania. Dairy Australia could and should be a little more realistic about the industry's situation and this is even more important when the world supply situation is pointing towards lower prices in the short and even long terms.
Hang on, no opposition from either Warren Truss or Tony Abbott? It must be good for us.
Crosby has it pretty close to right. MG's senior management should be cleaned out because they blundered on when other companies read the tea leaves so well. Their suppliers did well in previous years but that now looks like a fool's paradise. Clean out senior management and the supplier relations group and you'll make a good start but while ever they stay, MG is in strife.
