Note the Wilderbeest on the Serengetti. The lions get all those that are unfit and that is genetically and environmentally better for the rest of the Wilderbeest herd. If flies get your sheep, it means those sheep do not suit your environment. Mulesing might be good for the individual sheep now, but not for the species in the future. It is your business - you choose how to farm in your environment.
Some teenage girls get pregnant - would you advocate ovariectomising them all to stop it? People make up their own mind about any given "trade-off" which you so flippantly think they "could easily understand".
Sorry but I just cannot abide by this. The majority of the western world has obesity problems. Until recently there was massive expansion in wine grape growing areas. Most insulting of all, large areas of cheaply irrigated land around Kununurra in Western Australia are being planted to sandalwood, which will be in the ground for 12 to 14 years and the only thing it can be used for is perfume. There is no shortage of food, just an inequitable distribution of wealth to purchase it.
The threat of Peak Oil exists because once you use a complex hydrocarbon it is gone. You cannot destroy phosphorous unless you are good at alchemy, you can only change its form and take it from dense deposits and spread it across the earth more thinly. The "potable water" threat is caused by things in the water and salts may be a problem, but those things often involve a lot of phosphate and nitrogen, and surprise surprise what do we need to make food: water, phosphrous and nitrogen. Pardon the pun but the SOLUTION is a piece of piss!
