Fishermen used a fire extinguisher to signal a rescue helicopter after being stuck in a tree for two days in the far north of the Northern Territory.
The men, in their 20s, were forced to climb the tree this week after their boat had sunk in croc infested waters on the northern tip of Kakadu National Park.
Fortunately their boss sounded the alarm after they failed to return from their fishing trip on the South Alligator River and chartered a helicopter which found them.
The men were on a fishing trip when their boat partially sank, forcing them to climb into a tree without any of their safety equipment or supplies.
Fortunately, before their boat took on too much water, they were able to reach a fire extinguisher which they used to signal the helicopter.
CareFlight’s Top End Rescue Helicopter, operating on behalf of the NT Government, was tasked and landed in the carpark near the South Alligator boat ramp.
Rangers and friends brought the men to CareFlight’s medical team, who treated them for extreme dehydration and severe insect bites.
The men were flown to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition.
