FESTIVAL of the Wind has a fresh look with the recent release of a logo by local graphic artist Susi Watson.
The event has been running on a bi-annual basis for the last 14 years and each festival has had its own logo to identify its theme. This year’s theme is sustainability and the festivities will be kicking off from March 18 to 20.
Ms Watson said that her inspiration was the great Aussie Hills Hoist washing line.
“It’s not only an icon of an era when people were less reliant on machines that surround them in contemporary life, it’s also representative of a better way of doing things for the sake of a greener future,” she said.
“I have a particular interest in photography and whenever I can create an artwork that can take a picture from being mere photo-documentation and make it into something unique it’s especially satisfying, and I feel that the 2011 Festival Of The Wind logo is a good example of that.”
Event co-coordinator Toni Hawkins said the logo reflects the way people use natural power sources such as sun and wind in the most elemental way in people’s daily lives and have done for hundreds of years.
“The logo is also quirky and a bit ‘out there’, which we hope will inspire discussion and awareness of the festival.”
A range of attractions will include the much-anticipated Woody Island movie, filmed in Esperance by writer/director Brendan Ritchie.
Australian short films will also feature as part of the Flickerfest.
Activities for seniors, such as readings at the Nursing Home and Hostel, will also be part of the festival, while children will not be forgotten with Kidz Thingzz which will feature amazing constructions at the Sand Sculpture Competition, and other activities including the egg and spoon and three legged races.
Another attraction - On The Streets - will feature a diverse mix of performances, ages and locations to entertain festival goers.
Other events will include a Home Brew Competition, Artists in Residence - Public Art Project, The Junk Art Exhibition and much more.
