PRODUCERS looking for quality store cattle should look no further than next week’s Landmark Boyanup store cattle sale.
In the sale on Friday, July 6, the Landmark South West team is expecting to yard 1000 head of cattle.
Landmark South West livestock manager Michael Rose said the company was expecting another quality yarding of cattle and a feature would be the large run of Friesian steers.
“There are some very large single vendor lines of Friesian steers nominated, many of which are owner-bred and reared,” Mr Rose said.
“The line-up will also include some quality first-cross steers and heifers, plus there will be a good run of beef steers and heifers on offer.”
Australind operation Tiamo Holdings will be one of the vendors leading the charge in the Friesian steer section when it trucks in 70 head.
The 16-18-month-old steers were purchased in by the operation at past sales and grown out.
Matching Tiamo Holdings for numbers will be C & J Tapper, who will present 70 black and white steers aged 18 months.
Another vendor at the older end will be WA Partridge & Son, Benger.
The Benger operation has nominated 20 owner-bred steers aged 18-20 months plus a younger line of 22 steers aged 8-12 months.
It will also present two lines of Angus-Friesian first-cross steers.
There will be 10 steers which are 12-14mo while the other line will consist of 10 head aged 8-12mo.
Harvey operation SJ & RM Piggott & Son will also be among the vendors of older Friesian steers.
It has nominated 12 bucket-reared Friesian steers aged 14-16 months, along with 12 Angus-Friesian steers of the same age.
Another big contributor to the sale will be Benger operation Mahaffey Family Trust.
The operation has nominated 60 Friesian steers in the 10-14mo age range, which will be drafted into five pens.
The offering will comprise of both owner-bred and purchased in animals.
Narrikup operation Ravenhill Pastoral Trust will truck across 48 Friesian steers to the sale.
The 10mo owner-bred, bucket-reared steers are in fresh condition.
There will be two big vendors in the poddy pens Skip Grazing, Northcliffe and First Australian Farmlands, Scott River.
Skip Grazing’s offering will consist of 70 Friesian steers and 20 Jersey-Friesian steers, along with 20 Angus-Friesian steers all aged 5-7 months.
The calves, which are in fresh condition, were all purchased in by Skip Grazing from local Northcliffe dairy herds as day-old calves and reared in the operation’s automated calf rearing shed.
During rearing the calves received Beachport Liquid Minerals and at the beginning of June were drenched with Eclipse.
The operation will also offer 10 Angus-Friesian heifers which are 14-15mo.
The heifers are sired by Lawsons Angus bulls and are a good size to tuck away for a mating program next year.
Australian Farmlands’ offering for the sale will comprise 70 Jersey-Friesian cross steers aged 6-8mo.
The owner-bred, bucket-reared calves are ready to go as they have been drenched, vaccinated with 5in1 and dehorned.
In the first-cross heifer offering there will be a couple of lines of heifers sure to attract interest.
Brunswick operation Mirasole Trust has nominated nine Angus-Friesian first-cross heifers aged 14 months.
The heifers are all bucket-reared and will be offered vet checked unjoined and suitable to breed.
Ravenhill Pastoral Trust will also truck across a line of 26 Angus-Friesian heifers alongside its Friesian steers.
The 10mo owner-bred, bucket-reared heifers are in fresh to forward condition.
The offering of beef steers and heifers won’t disappoint either.
One of the biggest vendors in these pens will be Forrest View Grazing, Dinninup, with an offering of 40 Hereford/Poll Hereford heifers.
The 12-14mo heifers are owner-bred and come recommended.
Brunswick producers GD & DA Liddiard will also offer red and white calves.
The operation has nominated 19 Poll Hereford steers and four Poll Hereford heifers in the 8-9mo age bracket.
The steers will be lightweights weighing about 200kg, making them suitable for backgrounders to tuck away.
If it is Angus calves buyers are looking for, then there will be pens of these on offer.
Harvey producers P & T Curulli & Son will present 20 owner-bred Angus calves (10 steers and 10 heifers) which are 8-10mo, while Tiamo Holdings will have six Angus steers (12mo) on offer and Elysian Fields, Brunswick, will truck in 15 owner-bred Angus heifers (10-12mo).
Grey calves will also make an appearance with TH & BE Wood, Collie, offering 12 owner-bred Murray Grey steers (10-12mo).
