COW and calf values soared to $2475 at Independent Rural Agents (IRA) Pemberton's special cow and calf sale on AuctionsPlus on Monday.

IRA principal and AuctionsPlus level one professional assessor Colin Thexton presented a quality catalogue of 142 unmated cow and calf units that drew strong buying support.

Wagyu cow and calves stole the show selling to the sale's top price of $2475 while British and European breed cows and calves sold from $1775 to $2075 (all prices on-farm).

Mr Thexton said it was an outstanding result for the vendors.

"Absolutely rapt with how the system has worked again," Mr Thexton said.

"And I'm over the moon with the continued strong support from all sectors of the industry."

The $2475 top-priced line of 25 Wagyu cows and calves were offered by Bluestream Holdings, Northcliffe.

The unregistered four to seven-year-old purebred cows were bred on Tajima bloodlines while the calves were sired by a registered bull from Queensland, Obi Kobi Kabashi.

Northcliffe graziers RS Minchin & Co dispersed their breeding herd at the sale and left the industry on a high with their quality herd of mainly Gelbvieh-Angus-Friesian cross breeders and Gelbvieh sired calves at foot selling strongly from $1775 to $2075.

The family's $2075 top price was paid for a line of 28 younger breeders ranging from first to third calvers with Summit and Crystal Ridge Gelbvieh sired mid-February to the end of March-drop calves at foot. RB & E Pessotto, Manjimup, held a successful herd reduction at the sale with two lines totalling 45 Black Simmental-Angus and Black Simmental sired cows with Angus sired steer calves at foot selling for $1950. The cows were by Bonnydale Black Simmental bulls and their calves sired by Lawsons Angus bulls with the cows drafted into two lines of 20 and 25 according to split calving dates. Mayanup graziers Henderson-Glendale received $1800 for a line of 21 mainly Braford- Angus-Hereford cross second and third calving cows. The two to six week-old calves at foot were sired by Lawsons Angus bulls.
