WHEN it comes to heat detection, accuracy is critical. Beef producers are among those that are challenged by false heats and irregular cycling patterns at joining.

SenseTime Beef, the award-winning monitoring system by Allflex Livestock Intelligence, delivers beef producers with precise cycling information that facilitates a more cost-effective and less laborious mating process.

The technology is currently running on Nindooinbah Stud in Beaudesert, Queensland. The system has been installed as a live testing site and data is being compared against physical data collections, such as pregnancy scanning. The system is commercially available through Allflex Livestock Intelligence suppliers.

Nick Cameron, Manager at Nindooinbah Stud is a long time client of Allflex.

“Performance recording stud and seed stock cattle requires an identification system that is robust and reliable. All calves at Nindooinbah are tagged within 24 hours of birth using the Allflex pack with visual tag, EID tag, and TSU to take a tissue sample at the same time” he explains.

When the SenseTime Beef technology was released, Nindooinbah were an obvious choice for extensive field-testing.

The reproduction data that SenseTime Beef is producing includes; highly accurate heat detection, cows suspected for abortion and detection of anoestrus cows.

Farms that use artificial insemination can benefit from precise guidance on insemination timing. In natural breeding herds, knowing when a cow’s last heat was, as recorded in the system, helps to predict the calving date, instead of relying on pregnancy checks only.

SenseTime Beef is designed exclusively for beef farm operations and covers reproduction, health and well-being aspects of individual cows and groups.

Along with reproduction benefits, health and distress alerts can be sent directly to a mobile device anywhere, anytime. This provides a better quality of life for producers with peace of mind and freedom to step away from the farm.

The system is powered by Allflex’s market-proven, sophisticated algorithms, which analyse behaviour based on activity, rumination, eating and other key cow states. Producers have the option of a cSense neck collar or eSense ear tag, along with flexible plan levels and payment options.

During calving, SenseTime Beef can monitor the health of cows and alert producers of any post-calving issues such as ketosis. The system also provides an insight into the effectiveness of veterinary treatments and rumination patterns throughout the calving period. Abnormal activity will trigger an alert and facilitate early intervention.

Allflex Livestock Intelligence, an Antelliq company, is a familiar brand with Australian beef producers. Allflex RFID tags are proven to offer unrivalled reliability, readability and retention.

They are the tag of choice used by most large pastoral companies in Australia as well as throughout the supply chain. Allflex also remains the world leader in the design, development, manufacturing and delivery of animal identification and monitoring solutions.

“SenseTime Beef will enable smarter, more sustainable farming with the insights and analytics needed to optimise the productivity of every cow.

“By extending better livestock monitoring, we’re helping to ensure a secure and prosperous future for more farmers and their families.”
