AGRITECH company, Agersens have signed a collaboration agreement with the CSIRO to further develop and commercialise livestock technologies based on the virtual fencing collar system, eShepherd.
The GPS-enabled, solar powered eShepherd allows farmers to use a smartphone, tablet or computer to remotely fence, muster and monitor livestock. The stock are trained to stay within a virtual boundary when they hear an audio cue from the collar. The technology was patented by CSIRO and is licenced exclusively to Agersens worldwide.
Agersens, chief executive officer, Ian Reilly said the technology has the capacity to revolutionise livestock farming.
“Using eShepherd, beef and dairy producers will be able to improve the grazing control and well-being of livestock,” he said.
“This will lead to more productive and profitable farms, eShepherd will also benefit the environment by keeping livestock out of sensitive areas like waterways.
“Modern producers understand that improved grazing control leads to more productive and profitable farms.”
CSIRO, research director agriculture and food business, Drewe Ferguson said CSIRO was pleased to be able to continue collaborating with Agersens.
