‘Get on a green shirt and unite agriculture – your industry needs you’ is the key message from grass roots agriculture advocacy group Green Shirts Movement WA.
Beverley grain grower Alan Sattler is spearheading the group and said the group aims to be a unified voice for the bush in areas including live export, rural education and mental health.
“Our ultimate vision is to have representatives from all agriculture industries working together to be heard by political decision makers and trusted by consumers,” he said.
The WA movement started after a lack of action following a meeting of more than 1000 farmers at the live export meeting in Katanning in June.
The group has more than 750 followers on Facebook from across the state including the Midwest, Wheatbelt and Esperance region.
They are affiliated with the Green Shirt Movement in Queensland, which started earlier this year when landholders, regional businesses and individuals protested against vegetation amendments.
The Green Shirts Movement WA is calling on people to wear a green shirt across the state to show unity in the agriculture region.
“Wear a green shirt to work, to IGA, when delivering grain, when picking up parts; everywhere” Mr Sattler said.
“We need you to get involved, get your friends involved and spread the word.”
