THE Old Ram Muster was back doing its bit for charity with a luncheon at the Royal Agricultural Society’s Claremont Showgrounds recently.
The group, which evolved from a pre-Christmas get together between a few retired stock agents, Merino breeders and farmers 17 years ago, has now made its annual luncheon a recognised fundraiser.
Since 2007, its charity of choice has been the Ability Centre, Coolbinia, which offers care and services for children and adults with disabilities.
This year’s lunch, saw 123 people sit down to dine and along with a charity auction and a $10,000 donation from the JP Stratton Trust resulted in more than $18,000 raised to provide specialist equipment at the Ability Centre.
An added highlight was guest speaker, The West Australian newspaper columnist and former editor Paul Murray who provided an interesting insight into the modern media world as hard core news and investigative journalism fights for its place among the noise of today’s social media hype.
