A DELIGHTFUL eight-year-old cow from the Summit Gelbvieh stud, Narrikup, reigned supreme at this year’s Zambonetti Transport beef cattle judging at the Albany Show last week.
The beautiful beef matron, Summit Ladybird F151 and her stand out bull calf, was the complete package according to judge Kurt Wise, Southend Murray Grey stud, Katanning and his pick for the ultimate prize after a very competitive day of showing that saw more than 80 entries scrutinised through the various classes.
Ladybird came through the senior European female class and was then sashed grand champion interbreed senior beef female before being selected as the overall supreme exhibit of the show.
Mr Wise said Ladybird had the most power and capacity on the day and was structurally very correct.
“She has a sleek, smooth coat with a large udder and a great topline as well as extra length,” Mr Wise said.
“She is showing herself off well in the ring and is looking sensational.”
Also helping Mr Wise make his decision was the bull calf Ladybird was carrying at foot.
Summit Braveheart is a six-month-old calf and certainly influenced the judge’s decision to put Ladybird on top.
“The calf at foot is also showing plenty of power and capacity and is structurally correct,” he said.
“He has a good future in front of him.
“As a package they were just too hard to go past on the day.”
Going up against the Gelbvieh cow for the supreme title was the junior champion interbreed beef bull, Morrisvale Nightcap N28, which was also the junior champion European bull and was exhibited by the Morris family, Morrisvale Limousin stud, Narrikup.
The Morrisvale stud had an excellent show, with its junior champion European female, Morrisvale Nectarine N9, also competing for the supreme title after it was sashed the junior champion interbreed beef female.
Completing the supreme judging line-up was a Miniature Hereford bull, Paragon Lord Liam, which was sashed senior champion interbreed beef bull and senior champion specialty breeds bull of the show.
This bull was exhibited by the Paragon Miniature Hereford stud, Waroona.
