THE final special ewe sale for the Upper Great Southern region was held by Landmark at the Wickepin saleyards recently and ended the selling season on a very good note.
Just less than 4000 ewes and close on 1000 lambs were offered.
The bulk of the numbers came from Landmark Brookton-Pingelly agent Chris Turton’s clients with a number of other Landmark staff sending clients’ surplus sheep.
All lines of sheep saw widespread buying support from as far away as Esperance.
The sale’s top price came about halfway through the offering of ewes when sale auctioneer James Culleton, Landmark Corrigin, offered a line of ewes on behalf of Pingelly clients ML & BM Cunningham, who are changing their farming operation and reducing their Dohne and Merino breeding flocks.
They offered just more than 1000 October shorn ewes in the sale.
The Cunninghams line of 363 Chirniminup blood Dohne ewes were 3.5-year-olds and attracted keen competition with the $176 sale top price winning bid coming from Michele Ball, GR & VJ Ball, Dumbleyung, bidding through her local Landmark Dumbleyung agent Scott Jefferis.
The two other lines of Chirniminup blood Dohne ewes from the Cunningham family, 91 4.5yo ewes sold for $137 and 266 5.5yo made $115, when both were knocked down to Ms Ball who said they ran about 3500 head of F4 Dohne ewes which were joined to both Dohne and Suffolk rams.
The second top price on the day of $162 was paid for a line of 190 September shorn, 1.5yo ewes of Fleming Grove and Quailerup West breeding from David Lewis and family trading as 86 Gate Farm, Wickepin.
These were bought by Landmark Wickepin agent Ty Miller on behalf of Ken Mutton, KR & SL Mutton, Wickepin.
