THE opportunity to buy lines of quality ewes will present itself at next week’s Elders Kojonup ewe sale.
To be held next Friday, December 14, the sale will feature nearly 10,000 ewes from a range of Great Southern and South West vendors.
One quality offering that will be included in the sale will be the genuine dispersal of the Terlinga Farms ewe flock.
The dispersal comes with the Terlinga property at Cranbrook being sold and going under the hammer will be many years of quality sheep breeding.
The Terlinga flock has been in place since the 1940s and was initially started on an Uardry base from New South Wales.
For the past 30 years, the Wallinar bloodline has been used within the Terlinga flock, with Terlinga owner Warwick Armstrong a regular buyer of top-priced rams from the Wallinar stud over the years.
Terlinga will offer 3300 ewes in the sale that range in age from 1.5-year-old to 4.5-year-old.
The ewes will be bare shorn with shearing taking place last week and the flock average is sitting at 18.5 micron with a wool cut of just under 6kg.
The flock has a long-term lambing percentage that averages in the high 90s and in the past five years it has averaged 97 per cent.
Elders Cranbrook agent Clark Skinner said the ewes were in excellent condition after a good spring.
“Lambs were weaned off the ewes in October and thanks to excellent pasture conditions the ewes are looking exceptional,” he said.
“It would be hard to find a better flock of ewes on the market at the moment, it is a genuine dispersal and well worth an inspection.”
Mr Armstrong said the decision had been made to sell the farm and move onto another business venture.
“We have always had a passion for producing the best quality sheep we can and put a lot of time and effort into our ewe flock,” he said.
“We sold some wool in June this year and it topped the Dyson Jones offering of that week.”
That line of wool contained 11 bales of 18 micron wool that had a yield of 65pc and a strength of 40N/kt.
It sold for 1623 cents a kilogram greasy and 2497c/kg clean.
The remainder of the offering at Kojonup will be predominantly 1.5yo ewes from various vendors.
Some of the bigger lines will come from N & M Manuel, Arthur River, who will offer 600 1.5yo Rangeview blood, November shorn ewes, while M Hulse & Co, Darkan, will have 800 1.5yo AMS blood, November shorn ewes on offer.
Morgan Bros, Cranbrook, will have an offering of 300 1.5yo, Woodyarrup blood, December shorn ewes on offer, while Thornton Park Grazing will have 480 1.5yo, AMS blood, November shorn ewes in the sale.
Dare Farming will offer 400 1.5yo, MerinoTech blood, October shorn ewes and Mooringa Farms will offer 350 1.5yo, Mooringa blood ewes.
In the older ewe section, JP & CA Greaves will offer 300 3.5yo Hiview blood, October shorn ewes, while a line of 540 4.5yo, Performance Bred blood ewes will be offered by B Waldock Trust, Quindanning.
Elders Kojonup agent and sale co-ordinator Jamie Hart said the offering will be the last chance of the year to buy from a large offering of ewes at the one sale.
“There will be plenty of good wool types on offer from higher rainfall areas with ewes showing good growth and condition,” Mr Hart said.
