For buyers looking for calves with a Euro influence, there will also be plenty on offer including a line of 60 Charolais cross (30 steers and 30 heifers) from Graham and Kath Elliott, North Dandalup.
The basis of the Elliott’s beef breed are Murray Grey-Friesian cross females which are crossed to Angus bulls for their first two calvings, before being joined to Kooyong Charolais bulls for subsequent calvings, with the best heifers retained for herd replacements.
Their aim is to have fast growing calves on mothers with high milk production and the result is large a well-finished calf suitable for the local market directly off the mother or advanced stores to be finished for other markets.
The line from the Elliotts is expected to weigh 320-360kg.
Another line of calves carrying a Euro influence will be 65 Blonde d’Aquitaine-Belgian Blue cross weaners from A Mitchell & Co, Oldbury.
The 8-9mo calves are sired by Blonde d’Aquitaine bulls from their own West Coast Blondes stud and out of Belgian Blue cows.
They are expected to weigh in at about 330kg.
A line of 30 weaned Charolais (15 steers and 15 heifers) from the Estate of LI Millner, Wooroloo, are also sure to impress.
The calves are based on the operation’s own Downunder Charolais bloodlines and stud registration is available on the heifers at the buyers cost.
