THE Landmark South West Specially Selected PTIC Beef Female Sale over the past six years has cemented itself as the perfect place to buy top quality PTIC beef females.
So if it is classy, well-bred, PTIC beef heifers you are looking for then you will want to make sure you are headed to this season’s Specially Selected PTIC Beef Female Sale at Boyanup on Thursday, January 10, 2019.
In the sale, the Landmark South West team expects to offer a top line-up of about 500 beef heifers from some of the best breeding herds in the region.
The majority of the yarding will be Angus heifers – an estimated 400 head on offer, but for producers looking for something other than black, there will also be Murray Grey, Red Angus and Simmental-Red Angus heifers in the line-up.
When it comes to purchasing, buyers will be able to buy with supreme confidence in terms of not only quality but also pregnancy and health (BVDV) status.
In terms of the quality, this can not be questioned, as the females on offer have undergone a selection criteria, when inspected by Landmark commercial cattle manager Darren Chatley and Landmark South West livestock manager Matt Watts.
When it comes to pregnancy status, all the heifers on offer are PTIC and vendor guaranteed and will all be pregnancy tested within 30 days of the sale date.
Also like other Landmark South West female sales this season, all the heifers have been ear-notched tested BVDV free, giving buyers another reason to have supreme confidence in the line-up.
The majority of the owner-bred heifers also come from JBAS-8 accredited herds.
Mr Chatley said this sale had over time earned the reputation as offering only quality females and this coming sale would be no exception.
“Once again our vendors have again presented us with another outstanding yarding of quality mated heifers which buyers will not be disappointed in,” Mr Chatley said.
“Again the sale will see many of our long-term regular vendors supporting it with their annual consignments and they will be joined by a handful of new vendors offering for the first time.
“Like previous sales, prospective purchasers can certainly buy with confidence as once again the heifers have undergone a rigorous selection criteria when inspected and only those meeting certain quality requirements will be offered for sale, plus all females are PTIC and have been BVDV tested as in past years.”
Leading the sale will be the big run of Angus heifers and one of the biggest vendors in the section will be return vendors Mark and Peta-Jane Harris, Treeton Lake, Cowaramup and Dardanup, with 60 quiet, feminine, rising two-year-old Angus heifers.
The black beauties come from the Harris family’s J-BAS8 accredited breeding herd of 190 head and are sired by Coonamble, Cherylton and Black Market Angus bulls.
The family’s aim is to breed large-framed, roomy cows with good milk, ease of calving and good doing ability.
The Angus heifers on offer have been mated to Coonamble and Little Meadows Angus bulls and are due to calve from March 1 for 10 weeks.
The bulls used in the joining were selected for their low to medium birthweights and high growth rates.
The heifers had their 7in1 annual booster, a Cydectin drench and a Multimin treatment in August and prior to mating were ear-notch tested for BVDV and treated with Pestigard twice.
Fellow return vendor and long-time sale supporters the Muir family, Mordallup Angus stud, Manjimup, will again present another quality line of heifers when it trucks in 36 genuine, purebred Angus heifers.
This sale marks the seventh year the family has offered heifers and the offering provides producers with a rare opportunity to source females from one of WA’s most proven Angus herds.
The unregistered, young females from the family’s commercial herd are aged 21 to 22 months and have been joined to homebred, easy calving Mordallup bulls.
The classy maidens are due to calve from March 1 to the first week in May and have received their Ultravac 7in1 and Pestigard boosters in April and will be given Beachport Liquid Minerals in their water before the sale.
After topping last season’s sale Tomasi Grazing, Karridale, will be back at the sale again with a small but select offering of 16 Angus heifers.
The operation runs a breeding herd of 380 Angus breeders, based on mainly Monterey and Mordallup bloodlines and these heifers are bred from it.
The March 2017-drop heifers are PTIC to Mordallup bulls which were selected for their low birthweight and high growth traits.
The line is due to calve from March 1 for eight weeks and they have all received copper, cobalt and selenium bullets, plus they have had their annual 7in1 booster and a drench.
Also coming in from the Karridale area will be a line of Angus heifers from first-time sale vendor Tony Mostert, Scott River Trading.
Scott River Trading’s Angus offering will consist of 15 rising 2yo, owner-bred heifers which are sired by Mordallup bulls and out of Monterey blood cows.
The heifers are in calf to a specially-selected heifer bull, Monterey TENX L78 and are due to calve for 10 weeks starting from February 14.
Along with being ear-notched BVDV free, the heifers have also been treated with Pestigard.
They have also had their annual drench and 7in1 booster plus a Vitamin B12 and Selenium treatment.
Other big vendors in the Angus section will be Minga Flats, Cookernup and Shorescape Holdings, Myalup, which will both present 50 heifers.
Both lines are PTIC to Sheron Angus bulls, the Minga Flats draft has a calving period of February 26 to May 11 while the Shorescape Holdings’ heifers are due to calve from March 1 to May 10.
Regular vendors the Toovey family, LT Toovey & Sons, Cranbrook, will also be among the bigger vendors of Angus heifers with a large line of 48 heifers on offer based on its own Boyacup Angus bloodlines, which have a strong Coonamble influence in them.
The rising 2yo heifers are in calf to Boyacup Angus bulls and will calve from February 21 to April 4.
The Murray Grey heifers on offer in the sale will be as equally as impressive as their Angus counterparts and leading this charge will be a draft of 30 sweet Murray Grey heifers from Gary and Julie Buller, Monterey stud, Karridale.
The well-grown heifers have been mated to light to moderate birthweight, high milk, good growth, well-shaped Monterey Murray Grey bulls.
The 2-2.5yo heifers are from their J-BAS8 accredited herd and are due to calve from March 6 for 10 weeks.
The Bullers will also offer 20 Angus heifers which range in age from 20 months to 2.5yo based on their own breeding.
