PRODUCERS looking for quality beef females to boost the returns of their beef herd should look no further than the Elders Special Beef female sale at Boyanup on Friday, January 18.
In the sale commencing at 11.30am will be 552 PTIC heifers and 183 unjoined heifers that are sure to impress in terms of both their quality and breeding.
The line-up of PTIC heifers will comprise of 477 Angus, 28 Angus-Shorthorns 23 Murray Greys, 12 Angus-English Dairy Shorthorns, 10 Red Angus and two Murray Grey-English Dairy Shorthorns, which have either been mated to Angus, Murray Grey, Limousin or Red Angus bulls.
In the unjoined line-up there will be 120 Angus, 32 Murray Greys, 15 Red Angus and 16 Shorthorns.
All the females on offer in the sale have been inspected by Elders South West livestock representatives Michael Carroll and Alex Roberts, so the quality cannot be questioned.
Mr Carroll said the sale would again feature another first-class line-up of beef females put together by the Elders South West livestock team.
“The heifers are looking really good and the vendors should be commended on their efforts to get them to this position,” Mr Carroll said.
“Not only will buyers be able to purchase with extreme confidence in regards to quality of the heifers but also their pregnancy and health status.
“This year all the mated heifers on offer have been pregnancy tested in calf and have a vendor guaranteed maximum 12 weeks calving while the unjoined heifers have been vet checked suitable to breed and not detectable pregnant (NDP).
“Plus they have all also been ear-notch tested free from persistent infection (PI) of Pestivirus.
“All of these tests have been done since December 1 which means buyers can be assured they are buying only the best of quality.
“In addition to this some of the heifers in the sale have also been treated with Pestigard for immunisation against Bovine Pestivirus (BVDV) along with 7in1 and other animal health treatments.”
Leading the charge in terms of numbers in the PTIC section will be return vendors Howard and Helen Griffiths, HW Griffiths & Co, Ferguson Valley, with a line-up of 114 heifers.
The Griffths will offer 86 Angus and 28 Angus-Shorthorn heifers, which were purchased in as weaners from reputable breeders both privately and at South West weaner sales last season and all show good growth for age, good temperaments and are good feminine types.
The Angus-Shorthorn draft, which is based on The Grove Shorthorn and Cherylton and New Generation Angus bloodlines were purchased from Lanstal Pty Ltd, Pinjarra
The 114 classy, black beauties have all been mated back to Blackrock bulls selected for their low birthweights, moderate growth and docility and have a six week calving from March 13 to April 24.
Fellow return vendors Lance and Rosemary Pitter, LG & RJ Pitter, Coolup, will also have a significant line-up on offer having nominated 70 Angus heifers.
The majority of the Pitters heifers were purchased in from the unjoined run at last year’s sale as well as privately.
The quiet and well-grown heifers have been mated to low birthweight Koojan Hills Angus bulls and have a 10 week calving from February 21 to May 2.
Also offering big numbers in the PTIC heifer run, especially the Angus lines will be regular vendor Murray Tucker, MW Tucker, Tutanup, who has nominated 50 Angus heifers plus nine Murray Greys.
The Angus heifers were purchased in from JHH Bowie & Co, Bridgetown, as six-month-old weaners while the small line of silver Murray Greys are owner-bred and based on Young Guns bloodlines.
The females on offer from the Tuckers have been selected for both shape and quality as well as their quiet temperaments.
In terms of their joining details the Angus draft was joined to Diamond Tree/Gandy Angus bulls and the Murray Greys to a Monterey Murray Grey sire.
Both lines have a 10 week calving which will commence on February 16.
The Ryan family, AJ & WJ Ryan, Pemberton, will debut in the sale with an offering of 46 Angus heifers which were purchased in as weaners from the Kapari Angus stud, Northampton.
The big, roomy heifers were first AI-mated to Lawsons Momentous, which sold for $30,000 at last year’s Lawsons Angus Hopetoun sale and then backed up with another Lawsons Angus bull.
The line has a 12 week calving from February 17 to May 12.
Regular vendors Barry and Colin Gibbs, TH & L Gibbs & Sons, Ferguson Valley, will also again feature in the sale when they truck in a top line of 36 rising two-year-old feminine Angus heifers.
The owner-bred heifers, which are based on Blackrock Angus bloodlines, are in calf to Mordallup Angus sires and are due to calve from February 27 to May 8.
Farris Family Trust, Busselton, G & S Batley & Son, Busselton and Braeside Farm, Waroona, will also offer sizable drafts of Angus heifers.
The Farris Family Trust line will consist of 48 heifers which are PTIC to an Angus bull and due to calve from February 15 for nine weeks, while the Batley line will be made up of 40 heifers that are PTIC to an Angus sire with an 11 week calving which will commence on February 16.
In terms of Braeside Farm, it will present 30 Angus heifers carrying Angus-sired calves which are due to drop from March 1 for 10 weeks.
Joining the Murray Grey heifers on offer from Murray Tucker in the Grey run will be 14 Murray Greys from the Bagshaw family, Young Guns Murray Grey stud, Hyden.
The heifers are based on the stud’s own bloodlines and are back in calf to Young Guns Murray Grey bulls, which were selected for both their low birthweight and low maintenance traits.
These heifers are due to calve from February 27 to May 9.
The 10 PTIC Red Angus heifers will come from the Serpentine paddocks of Guy and Pat Jellicoe, Jutland Park Red Angus stud.
The heifers are based on their own stud bloodlines and are also in calf to Jutland Park Red Angus bulls.
The line has a 12 week calving which will start on March 11.
The Higham family, HN Higham, Williams, will again return to the sale with 12 Angus-English Dairy Shorthorns and two Murray Grey-English Dairy Shorthorns.
All the heifers on offer from the Highams were joined to Angus and Red Angus bulls and they are due to calve from March 14 for 10 weeks.

In the unjoined heifer section of the sale the WA College of Agriculture, Harvey, will be the largest vendor when it trucks in 50 Angus heifers.
The March/April-drop calves are from the college’s herd of 320 Angus breeders and are either AI-bred by Rennylea Edmond and out of heifers or sired by bulls carrying Blackrock and Diamond Tree Angus bloodlines.
The very quiet line was paddock-weaned in late November and in terms of health treatments they have received 7in1 twice, Cobalife, Vitamin A, D & E, a fly treatment along with a drench in June.
The MacLeay family, DH & FA MacLeay, Blackrock Angus stud, Vasse, will again be vendors in the unjoined section with an offering of 30 heifers, which will be suitable for joining this season.
The classy black females, which show plenty of potential as future breeders, are all out of purebred stud cows and surplus to the operation’s breeding requirements.
The March/April-drop calves were weaned in November and have had their 7in1 treatments for life (three times) along with an Eprinex drench recently.
Another line of Angus heifers sure to impress will come from return vendor Jim Fox, JS Fox, Pemberton, who has nominated 40 heifers, which are extremely quiet and well-bred.
The 11mo heifers are based on Mordallup and Diamond Tree/Gandy Angus bloodlines and no doubt like previous sales will be highly sought after.
They show great potential to grow in to first-class breeders of the future and with current weights of 350-400kg will be ready to mate this season.
The 32 Murray Grey heifers in the unjoined section will come from ER & KE Martin, Collie.
The very quiet, owner-bred heifers are based on Bundaleer Murray Grey bloodlines.
Two thirds of the heifers on offer from the Martins are 12mo, while the remainder are rising two-year-olds.
Rounding out the vendors in the unjoined section will be Dansinup Grazing, with 15 Red Angus and Taylor Agricultural Contracting, Harvey, with 16 Shorthorn heifers (15mo) based on The Grove bloodlines which were purchased as lightweight weaners from Lanstal Pty Ltd, Pinjarra.
