HEAT and dust did nothing to deter buyers at the RW Thompson & Son clearing sale in Kondinin last week conducted by Westcoast Wool & Livestock, with the penning of three-year-old ewes achieving the sale high of $136.
The line of 254 August shorn, 3yo Merino ewes was snapped up by Robert Lupton, Beverley.
The entire yarding was bred on Narbethong bloodlines and had been August shorn and, with the exception of a line of 81 3yo ewes and the pen of ewe lambs, the remainder of the yarding was mated to Merinos.
The first pen to go under the hammer was the offering of 210 orange tag ewe lambs that were knocked down to Reg Parker, RMJ & EM Parker, Pingelly, for $115.
Mr Parker said he had purchased the lambs with the view to selling to the Eastern States next year.
A line of 168 2yo ewes was secured by Garrick and Nicole Connelly, GA & NK Connelly, Corrigin, who were chasing a few more young breeders for their commercial operation.
The lines of 115 4yo ewes, and 121 5yo ewes, both sold to Elders Corrigin’s Steele Hathway, on behalf of a client.
Mr Hathway said it had been opportune buying on the day.
“These were good quality sheep and went for a very reasonable price,” he said.
“The value of wool at present made it an extremely good deal.”
The pens of 3yo and 4yo ewes sold for $131 and $110 respectively.
Rounding out the sale was a line of 81 3yo ewes that were mated to Poll Dorset rams, which sold for $132 to RG & ME Marsh & Son, Karlgarin.
Westcoast Wool & Livestock Kulin’s Barry Gangell said buyers that purchased the ewes on the day would do very well out of them.
“For their type they sold at a definite buyers’ market,” Mr Gangell said.
