WESTERN Australian cattle studs made their mark at South Australian sales last month.
Return buyers Kevin and Sue Nettleton, Unison Limousin stud, Boyanup, paid the $12,000 top price for a cow and calf unit at the Vogt family’s Maryvale Limousin and Angus on-property sale at Kapunda.
The May 2016-drop cow Maryvale Meringue M645 had a heifer calf at foot by Summit Blueprint M20.
Meringue M645 was sired by Birubi Jupita J15 and out of Maryvale Gracious G106.
Mr Nettleton said the cow and calf’s genetics would complement his own stud breeding program.
He said they had ET-bred calves on the ground from Meringue M645’s grand dam Palmdale Shantal, and had purchased semen from Blueprint M20.
Peter Kupsch, Tara Limousin stud, Allanooka, paid the sale’s $5000 top bull price for the homozygous polled bull Red Oak North Bound N23.
The deeper red bull is an early May 2017 born son of Birubi Kaiser K140.
The following day, the Kupschs secured another polled stud sire for $5000 from the Raven Limousin and Lim-Flex on-property sale at Murray Bridge. Raven Nucleus N148 was an apricot-coated early June 2017 born son of Progress Dutch Force and a Wulfs Xtractor X233X daughter.
Mr Kupsch said previous Maryvale and Raven Limousin purchases had performed well for them and they were looking for soft cattle and outcross bloodlines for their Tara herd.
“Both bulls had good shape, muscling, early maturity and importantly docility,” Mr Kupsch said.
“We were fortunate to secure two stud sires for $10,000.
“Both sales were a good opportunity for stud and commercial producers to source top cattle and it’s a shame the drought impacted buying support.”
