The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is calling on mango lovers to take part in a research study of new varieties to rate appearance, taste and value.
The study requires 160 consumers to put their taste buds to the test on Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1.
The department is a partner in the National Mango Breeding Program that bred the new varieties, expected to be available in store within the next few years.
These new high yielding mango varieties have been selected for their flavour profiles to suit consumers in both Australia and overseas, and will help fill gaps in harvest windows to extend the mango season.
There is a strong focus on providing WA consumers with fresh locally grown mangoes for more of the year.
The information gathered in the consumer research study will help the development of target markets and the marketing strategy for the release of the varieties to support the State's mango growers.
Department tropical fruit research scientist Tara Slaven said the study was a fantastic opportunity for those who loved eating mangoes to provide feedback on the new varieties and rate them against other popular varieties already on the market.
"Participants will also be asked to give an indication of price point - essentially what they would be prepared to pay for the mangoes in store," Ms Slaven said.
"This information will give farmers, or potential investors looking to establish new mango orchards, an insight into consumer preference to the new varieties they grow."
WA's mangoes are harvested from September through to April, starting the season in Kununurra followed by Broome, Carnarvon and then Gingin.
To take part in the research study, participants need to be aged between 18 and 65 and must have bought at least one mango this year.
Each session will include 20 participants and run for 90 minutes at the department's South Perth office - 9am to 10.30am; 11am to 12.30pm; 1.30pm to 3pm and 3.30pm to 5pm.
The sessions will be facilitated by researchers from the department and Griffith University.
