The Wyalkatchem community is set to have improved sporting facilities at the town's country club after being awarded more than $194,000 in state government funding.
The funds, to be used to construct two tennis courts, one multi-marked court with lighting; and lighting for a bowling green at Wyalkatchem Country Club, were allocated as part of the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).
The project was one of 23 groups around the state that shared in $9.35 million for the development of grassroots sport and recreation facilities.
Agriculture region MP Darren West said the funding to Wyalkatchem, Coorow, Kojonup, Condingup and Morawa would make a big impact on the regional communities.
"We know country towns are built around their sense of community and one of the biggest parts of that is the local sporting culture," he said.
Sport and Recreation minister Mick Murray said the projects would not only improve physical health outcomes of local residents, but also their social and mental health.
"Modern sport and recreation facilities and infrastructure play an important role for our many communities across WA," he said.
"In many cases, these facilities also provide meeting and social opportunities for locals, especially in country towns, and can contribute greatly to helping foster community spirit and wellbeing.
"I commend these sporting groups and local governments for their commitment to provide better facilities and build stronger, healthier communities."
