A MAN is in a critical condition after he was shot in the stomach at a rural property outside of Collinsville.
The 29-year-old was seriously wounded after he attended the property on the Bowen Developmental Road with two other men about 12.40am on Saturday.
Acting Inspector Nathan Blain said the three men, who had been at a party elsewhere in Collinsville earlier in the evening, had travelled to the property in the early hours of Saturday, where a verbal altercation occurred with a resident at that address.
Police will allege the 26-year-old male resident walked back inside where he retrieved a firearm, and shot one of the three men in the abdomen.
The friends drove their wounded mate to Collinsville Hospital for treatment.
He was flown to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition and remains in the intensive care unit after undergoing multiple surgeries.
Insp Blain said police were called to a disturbance at the rural property about 12.40am.
As they were en-route, they received a phone call from the hospital saying a man had presented with a gun shot wound.
Insp Blain said police quickly identified the two happenings were linked and called for back-up, including police negotiators.
Negotiators spoke with the man at the address, before he eventually gave himself up to police custody about 2.15am.
The 26-year-old has been charged with a string of offences including attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, receiving tainted property (firearm), unlawful possession of weapon - used to commit indictable offence, possession of dangerous drugs (cannabis) and possession of drug utensils.
Insp Blain said it was too early to speculate as to what had caused the argument and if it was drug related, but said police were talking to numerous witnesses.
He said the firearm used in the attack was a .30-30 rifle which had been stolen from a Charters Towers address in 2016.
Insp Blain commended emergency services who attended the scene.
"Policing these kind of incidents in rural areas can be quite challenging and quite dynamic," he said.
"Police were called in from outside, negotiators arrived very quickly and had a peaceful resolution to what could have been a far more serious incident as well."
The accused was due to face the Proserpine Magistrates Court today.
