WET conditions have further delayed the start of the sugar crush on the Burdekin.
Wilmar's Inkerman Mill was set to fire up on Monday, June 8, after first being delayed from the planned start of Tuesday, June 2.
But ongoing wet field conditions have forced a change of plans for the company and Invicta Mill will instead kick off the season on Wednesday, June 10.
Wilmar cane supply and grower relations general manager Paul Giordani said the other three Burdekin mills, Inkerman, Pioneer and Kalamia, will start up progressively as cane supply becomes available.
Mr Giordani said the decision to delay the season start had been made following consultation with growers and harvesting operators across the Burdekin region.
He said logistics staff would continue to work directly with growers and contractors on detailed cane supply agreements.
Residents are being reminded that cane trains would be on the move in the region and urged people to be vigilent and give way to locos on crossings.
