Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2166 cattle, consisting of 1992 prime cattle and 174 store cattle on Wednesday.
The prime cattle consisted of 449 bullocks, 160 heifers, 1004 cows and 379 bulls. Store cattle consisted of 73 steers and 101 heifers.
Cattle comprised of two lines of good quality young ox, backed up by mixed runs of cows selling to overall dearer rates on last week's sale. The yarding was drawn from Normanton, Julia Creek, Richmond, Mt Garnet, Collinsville, as well as local and coastal areas.
Prime quotes: Bullocks were 8-10c/kg dearer, heifers were 8-10c dearer, cows were 15c dearer, and bulls were 5-10c dearer compared to last week's rates.
Bullocks topped at 346.2c for 17 from Bram Smith, Watchill Plains, that weighed 542kg to return $1876/head.
Best priced trade heifers were presented by Medway Farming and sold for 338.2c, weighing 414kg to return $1400.
The top pen of cows was sold by Matthews Cattle P/L for 280.2c, weighing 647kg to return $1813. Bulls sold by Hillgrove Pastoral Co topped at 342c and weighed 704kg to return $2407.
Store quotes: Store cattle were in limited numbers due Friday's upcoming store sale.
A pen of six steers from MWA and DU McMahon made 365.2c and weighed 378kg, returning an average of $1380.
A good pen of six heifers from Scott McClymont made 362.2c and weighed 277kg, returning an average of $1003.
