Mareeba combined agents penned a total of 1463 head at Tuesday's prime and special store sale. Numbers increased by 374 head on the previous week. Two local processors were present along with three traders and a large gallery of local buyers.
Prices were strong for good quality cattle and more new saleyards records were set. There was strong demand from restockers for cattle under 200kg regardless of breed.
The yarding consisted of 314 steers averaging 345.4c/kg and selling to a top of 404.2c, including the new saleyards record for meatworks ox of 375.2c. The 372 bulls offered averaged 310.7c, selling to a top of 444.2c, with a new saleyards record for mickey bulls at 444.2c.
The 250 cows averaged 244.2c selling to a top of 308.2c, 224 heifers averaged 327.6c selling to a top of 406.2c, setting a new saleyards record for butchers heifers.
The 135 yearling heifers averaged 352.3c selling to a top of 420.2c, another new saleyards record, and 161 yearling steers averaged 395.8c selling to a top of 434.2c.
