Jim and Jackie Wedge have selected an impeccable 160-lot draft for the Ascot Spring Bull Sale taking place on Friday, September 17 from 1pm on their property, North Toolburra, in Warwick.

The catalogue includes 71 Angus bulls comprising 48 rising two year-olds and 23, 16 to 18 month-old bulls, 59 Charolais bulls consisting of 41, two year-olds and 18, 16 to 18 month-olds, and 30 registered heifers.

"Included in these lots are close to 35 bulls that should suit heifer joinings and 37 of the 59 polled Charolais bulls are homozygous polled (PP)," Mr Wedge said.

In the Angus offering, the Wedges are excited to be offering some of the very first bulls sold in Australia by the $160,000 Australian record-holding bull Millah Murrah Paratrooper P15.

"There will also be first calves by Millah Murrah Might and Power, Ascot Mogul, Ascot New York and Sprys W General, as well as sons of tried and proven breed leading reference sires including: Ascot Hallmark, Millah Murrah Loch Up, Clunie Range Kahlua, Clunie Range Juno, Clunes Crossing Dusty and Nampara Liberty."

The Charolais section will feature sons of breed leading PP sires from Australia and overseas.

"These include sons of the $160,000 LT Authority, Palgrove Masterpiece, Palgrove Milestone, GDXN9F and Ascot Nett Profit, as well as from the ever-reliable Ascot Juggernaut, Rosedale Lump Sum, Palgrove Kudos, Paringa Kilo Packer, and Ascot Masterpiece."

The females catalogued for the sale are all registered and Breedplan recorded, joined and unjoined stud Angus and Charolais heifers.

"The heifers we've selected are by breed leading sires, including two by Millah Murrah Paratrooper."

Ascot Regent R120E R/F is a 15-month-old PP Charolais with seven traits in the top two per cent of the breed.

Mr Wedge said all the sale bulls have spent their life on pasture and crop growing out well and are now on a mild sale preparation ration.

"They all adhere to the Ascot Balance, which encompasses breeding for carcase, fertility, docility, high weight for age and fleshing combined with polledness and structural integrity.

"These bulls are raised in Queensland and as Ascot is now a Johnes J Bas 8 property, the majority of the bulls are eligible for entry to anywhere in Australia, including Western Australia (the exception being bulls that were born on the Wedges New South Wales property). Please refer to our catalogue for each bulls' JBas status."

All bulls selected for the sale have been: Semen and morphology tested by Ced Wise veterinarians; independently assessed for structure and temperament by industry expert Jim Green; blooded for tick fever; vaccinated for 3 day sickness,7 in 1, pestivirus, botulism and vibrio; tested pesti free; scanned for fats, EMA and IMF, scrotal size as yearlings and fully breedplan recorded; DNA parent/sire verified; and will be scanned again prior to sale for fat cover, EMA, IMF and scrotal size for the supplementary sheet.

Those unable to attend the sale can bid through the AuctionsPlus online platform.

"There will be photos and videos of every sale bull and heifer on our website and the AuctionsPlus site to make remote bidding easier. Phone bidding via the sale agents will also be available."

The Wedges are offering free delivery to many major centres in Qld and NSW. Refer to the catalogue for details. The sale will proceed following Covid-19 protocols. Complementary morning tea, lunch and post-sale refreshments will be provided on sale day.

Mr Wedge said they're looking forward to catching up with everyone on sale day.

"Inspections will commence from 10am on sale day, though all are welcome to arrange an earlier inspection via appointment."
