AT the risk of sounding like a recording, the Elders Boyanup store cattle sale continued the upward trend with the 1657 cattle sold averaging $1826, a lift of $63 over the last sale at Boyanup.
With 250 head above advertised numbers of 1400 penned, there was a good selection of all types for buyer's perusal, resulting in a gross of $3.025 million.
Competition came from the usual supporters, dominated by lotfeeder demand.
Processors, agents and graziers also secured cattle to create strong bidding.
Liveweight cattle lifted about 20 cents per kilogram while appraisal type rose between $50-$100.
Outstanding quality beef steers sold to $2640 to lift $80 on heavy cattle and 90c/kg for the top lightweight steers.
Heifers reached $2096 and 695c/kg, more than 120c/kg up for the top liveweight price.
Beef cross steers struggled to hold the last sale's outstanding prices, selling to $2311 and 516c/kg.
Liveweight Friesian steers, which while well-covered, were of lighter weights at the top end than past sales, sold to $2112 and 468c/kg.
Beef cross steers of poddie size had an incredible day, topping at $1600 while Friesian poddies made up to $1300.
Appraisal mediumweight Friesian steers were better value when topping at $1510.
A few lines of beef cross heifers reached a high of $1200, with a selection of cows and calves selling well to $3750.
Following the usual pattern, Kookabrook Livestock snapped up the first pen of four Angus weighing 600kg from R & D Crane, paying $2364 at 394c/kg.
Kookabrook soon added five red steers weighing 654kg from M & V Hodgson at $2432, paying 372c/kg.
Harvey Beef again added strong competition on heavier cattle, paying $2312 and 466c/kg for eight grey steers sold by LO Miller, Donnybrook.
The next pen from this vendor, 15 weighing 417kg cost Kalgrains, Wannamal, $2163 at 518c/kg.
Harvey Beef added steers from L & K Little at $2506 and CD Sharp, Donnybrook, for $2460 along with a pen of eight Charolais from S & J Hayes, Capel, for $2557.
The Hayes' account took the honours for its large draft of Bardoo blood steers that sold to the top of $2640, paid by Elders, Donnybrook representative Pearce Watling, buying for Princess Royal Trading, South Australia.
Mr Watling secured other pens at $2632, $2512, $2541 and $2553, with the pens all of eight steers selling from 450 to 458c/kg.
Harvey Beef bought four pens, paying up to $2567 and 486c/kg.
Kalgrains and Welldon Beef, Williams, secured numerous pens, with B & M Waddell and O'Meehan & Co other feedlots to buy numbers.
Westcoast Wool & Livestock representative Hayden Ballantyne proved to be still quick on his feet to put together pens, paying to $2250 for 12 greys from Alba Farms.
Lexden Park, Capel, outlaid the top of 710c/kg for 13 black steers weighing 266kg from RM McKenzie to pay $1888.
MA Cowcher, Williams, was rewarded for trucking its steers to the sale with them all selling for more than $2300.
Kookabrook snapped up the top price heifers too, paying $2096 for two Murray Greys from CR Dimasi, Donnybrook, bidding to 348c/kg for the 602kg females.
Greg Jones lifted the tempo on the heifers, buying the first three pens sold by S Payne, Busselton.
The first 10 weighing 457kg cost $1965 at 430c/kg, the next nine, averaging 458kg went at 428c/kg for $1961 along with 10 weighing 440kg for $1929 and 438c/kg.
Mr Jones later paid $2096 for two heifers sold by IR Ryan, Manjimup, paying 430c/kg.
Another pen of eight Simmental heifers from SJ & RM Lees, Wilga, sold for $2037 with the 384kg cattle making 530c/kg when bought by Welldon Beef.
This buyer also snapped up the 11 Limousin heifers from Jim Bogoias, Manjimup, with these costing $2035 at 544c/kg.
The top of 695c/kg was paid by Elders Brunswick/Harvey representative Craig Martin for seven weighing 259kg from RM McKenzie to cost $1802.
A small offering of beef cross steers reached $2311, paid by Harvey Beef for nine Hereford steers from SE Campbell.
A pen of 12 Angus sold by Ryeland Dairy, Capel, topped at 516c/kg when the 393kg steers were bought by Nutrien Livestock, Bridgetown agent Ben Cooper.
The first pen of seven Friesian steers sold by PM & T Duggan, Cowaramup, topped at $2112 when Melrose Enterprises, Donnybrook, bid to 352c/kg for the 600kg steers.
Melrose Enterprises then added the next nine at $2016 and 364c/kg.
Nutrien Livestock, Boyup Brook agent Jamie Abbs, paid $1811 for 10, while Nutrien Livestock, Boyanup/Capel agent Chris Waddingham bought a pen at $1849.
The top of 468c/kg was paid for 11 weighing 364kg from GA Lee bought by Greycliffe Farm, Burekup, to return $1706.
Nutrien Livestock, Waroona agent Richard Pollock was hard to beat on the beef poddie types, snapping up the first five pens, including the top-priced pen at $1600 paid for seven from CA Panetta, Harvey.
Another 13 joined then at $1580.
Appraisal Friesian steers topped at $1510 that Elders, Nannup agent Terry Tarbotton paid for 12 Willow Hills steers, before taking the next pen of 12 at the same figure.
Elders, Boyanup representative Alex Roberts paid $1440 and $1410 for pens from P & T Duggan, as well as $1450 for a line of seven from D & A Campbell.
Friesian poddies were sought after again, with a line of 20 from WL Olsthoorn topping at $1300 when bought by Mr Roberts.
Aintree Dairy Farm also paid $1300 for 20 Olsthoorn poddies.
Lake Janis Produce topped the cow and calf section with four Angus with older calves when Kevin Armstrong placed the final bid of $3750.
Elders Manjimup, representative Cameron Harris paid $3400 for three Murray Grey units sold by PD Nayda, Busselton, to be the next highest.
