TWO of Western Australia’s most successful medium size Alpaca Studs are combining to provide one venue for an open day and sale of alpacas.
Katydid Suri Alpacas specialises in silken Suri alpacas while Autumn Lane Alpacas are specialist coloured Huacaya breeders.
Between the two studs they have more than 25 years’ experience breeding alpacas and are both members of the Australian Alpaca Association.
They have been successful in their breeding programs, collecting a multitude of ribbons from class winners to Best Colour awards and Supreme Champion trophies.
Alpacas are gentle creatures and make good pets if treated with respect, while their herd instinct makes them ideal as stock protectors.
They will chase off predators and may even kill foxes.
Unlike sheep they rarely suffer from fly strike and are happy to graze all day, keeping the grass down.
Because alpacas have padded feet, not hooves like sheep, they are gentler on the ground and do not graze so close to the ground as to damage the pasture – the perfect environmentally friendly livestock.
The sale will be held over two days from August 18 until August 19 between 10.30 am and 4pm at 3511 Toodyay Road, Gidgegannup.
If you are thinking of adding alpacas to your lifestyle this is a great opportunity to gather information and perhaps a bargain or two.
There will be alpacas for all budgets and all levels of stock will be offered for sale, from pets through to quality stud stock.
