Kogody's $8500 top price pleasing

And this certainly rang true with a full clearance of the 21 bulls offered for an average of $5238, which was up $1891 on last year.

The top price of $8500 was almost double that of last year, which sat at $4400.

And with six more bulls sold under the hammer this year compared to last year, the gross jumped significantly to $110,000, compared to $50,200 last year.

Kogody stud principal Chris Hockey was obviously pleased with the sale and said it was a reflection of the current cattle market.

He also welcomed a couple of new buyers to the sale, but it was mostly return buyers that were active.

This included Roger Nankivell, Condingup, who paid the $8500 top price.

The top price bull, Kogody WBP K25, was a March 2014 drop bull that was sired by SAV Mustang and out of Kogody WBP H30.

It had a birthweight EBV of +3.3 and registered +48 for 200-day weight, +82 for 400-day weight and +106 for 600-day weight.

Mr Nankivell said it was a good all-round bull well suited to his commercial operation.

"I liked his conformation, he had good figures and looked very sound," he said.

The bull will be used over Angus cows, with the progeny to be turned off to feedlotters.

Mr Nankivell would normally only buy one bull at the sale but was looking to replace some herd bulls this year and bought three in total.

He paid $7500 for lot six and $7500 for lot 2.

Lot 2 was a Dunoon Gabba son, while lot six was sired by SAV Birthstone and out of Kogody E3.

Landmark Brindley & Gale agent Peter Gale was prominent at the sale putting his hand up four times on behalf of Yee Ha Pty Ltd, Esperance.

This account paid $3500 each for its bulls, which included lots 5, 8, 13 and 25.

Another major buyer was Andy Leiper, AJ & ME Leiper, Esperance, who bought four bulls in total.

Mr Leiper paid $4000 apiece for his bulls, which included lot 13, Kogody K77. K77 was by Dunoon Evident and out of Kogody D333.

It had a 200-day weight EBV of +42 and a 400-day weight EBV of +74.

New buyer to the stud, Conrad Lowe, CS & LD Lowe, Condingup, bought three bulls in total.

Topping Mr Lowe's purchases were two bulls at $6500, while the third was bought for $4000.

The Whiting family, Shepwok Downs, Gibson, bought two bulls both for $5000 each, while L & K McLean, Gibson, also bought two, including lot 1 for $5500.

Others to chime in with purchases included Ridley Plains paying $5000 for lot 4, GDT Spencer, Esperance, who outlaid $6000 and Wes Graham who paid $7500 for a Connealy Answer son in lot 18.

Similar to his comments on the Allegria Park sale, Landmark Brindley & Gale agent and auctioneer Neil Brindley again said the Kogody result reflected the current buoyancy in WA's cattle market.

"The average was up nearly $2000, so you can't ask for more than that," he said.

"The bulls presented very well and buyers obviously appreciated that and bid accordingly."
