A NEW sale location for the Narralda Shorthorn stud bull sale didn't change a thing when the stud achieved an excellent clearance of 58 pure bred Shorthorn heifers and 21 stud bulls last week.
Held this year for the first time at the Great Southern Regional Saleyards, Narralda stud principal Alex Burrow and the Elders stud stock team were pleased with the result overall and the sale top price of $10,000.
The top price bull Narralda Khan K094 had been inspected previously by buyer Chris James, Stockdale Partners, Hyden, and bidding on his behalf at the sale was Landmark great southern area manager Bob Pumphrey.
Mr Pumphrey said that Stockdale had purchased last year's top price bull also and that the bull he selected this year was a half-brother to last year's bull.
"Aesthetically he is a very good bull with outstanding volume and muscle," he said.
The James family have been in Shorthorns for many years and have a base herd of Shorthorn as well as Angus.
The top sire was +4 for birth weight and +36, +45 and +56 for 200, 400 and 600 day weights and his pedigree stated that he was by Narralda Gladiator G50 and out of Narralda Thelma F72.
In the female section, long term Narralda clients Lanstall Pty Ltd, Pinjarra, paid the top money for four purebred commercial heifers paying $1650 each for the females while eight heifers knocked down to the Yost family, Liberty Charolais stud, Toodyay, meant the beginnings of a new Shorthorn enterprise for the family.
The Yosts paid up to $1550 for four of the heifers and $1200, $1025, $900 and $875 for the remaining four.
Back to the bulls, the second top price of the sale was $7000 and the Della Gola family, Tonebridge Grazing, Tonebridge, who are regular buyers at Narralda secured the second top price sire Narralda Kingfisher K136.
As well as the bull, the Della Gola's also bought six of the heifers paying $1000 apiece for the purebred commercial females.
Volume buyers, Kelliher Bros, Wandering, purchased four bulls all up paying up to $5250 twice, and $5000 and $3000 for the remaining two.
It was pleasing to see a new client R Purvis, Esperance, support the sale and four bulls were knocked down to this account including the third top price bull which sold for $6750 and another three at $6500, $5500 and $5000.
Back to the Narralda stud's regular buyers, Mt Augustus Station secured three bulls paying $4000, $3500 and $3000 while K & A Zambonetti, bought one at $4250.
Back to the heifers which were sold at the beginning of the sale, other buyers which took home their requirements included Alan Hawley, AF & HM Hawley, Millbrook, who bought five heifers at $1450 while D & W Elphick, Torbay, bought five for $900 each.
G & S Elphick, Torbay, took home two lines of the Narralda heifers paying $900 each for a total of 11.
Elders stud stock auctioneer Nathan King said that he was very pleased with the Narralda sale result and that the sale was backed by a very good client base.
"The Narralda bulls are of exceptional quality and the list of long-term buyers affiliated with the stud are testament to that," he said.
"The females also have grown to be a real drawcard of the sale and are just as much of an attraction.
"It was an excellent sale highlighted by new buyers as well as regular buyers."
