AN AREA of low pressure lingering off the Pilbara coast has been causing storms with flash flooding and strong coastal winds.
Heavy rain was reported in Karratha, where 9mm fell in 10 minutes, bringing them to 35mm for December, almost three times the average.
31mm of rain was recorded since 9am at Carnarvon Airport. Their wettest day in two years, and the wettest December day since 1995.
Barrow Island recorded 20mm of rain to 9am, making it their wettest December in 10 years with 28mm.
Gale wind warnings have been issued for the coast between Carnarvon and Kalbarri and strong wind warnings are in place for the rest of the east coast of WA.
The tropical low is expected to weaken as it moves inland over the next few days with little chance of it developing into a cyclone.
