TO PREVENT herbicide residues in delivered grains, growers must proceed cautiously when applying herbicides late in the season prior to harvest.
The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is providing information on stewardship for late season herbicide use through a new GRDC Late Season Herbicide Use Fact Sheet.
“The application of herbicides late in the season to prevent weeds setting seed or to desiccate crops must be in line with herbicide label recommendations, and withholding periods must be adhered to,” GRDC crop protection manager Rohan Rainbow said.
“To assist growers, the Late Season Herbicide Use Fact Sheet covers topics including pulse spray topping, late season herbicide use in cereals and canola, and frequently asked questions.
“The fact sheet also includes detailed information on registered product options for late season weed control (including spray topping and crop topping) and desiccation in a variety of broadacre crops.”
The GRDC Late Season Herbicide Use Fact Sheet is available here and will be included in the November/December edition of the GRDC magazine Ground Cover, which will be in growers’ mailboxes in mid-November.
