A PUREBRED Simmental steer has sold for $11,000 at the Royal Melbourne Show, much to the delight of World Simmental Congress delegates.
The steer, prepared by Finley High School and bred by the Baker family, Woonallee Simmentals, Furner, SA, sold to Coles supermarkets through buyer, Dale Pemberton, and all proceeds from the sale went to charity, beyondblue.
Another Woonallee-bred steer, exhibited by VPC Cattle Services, was named reserve heavyweight champion on the hoof in the judging, while the Simmental team snared the Borthwick Trophy for best three steers on the hoof.
There are currently delegates from 17 countries in Melbourne for the World Simmental Congress, which kicked off over the weekend.
A welcome reception was held at Victoria’s Parliament House on Monday night where delegates were welcomed by former Prime Minister and Congress patron, Malcolm Fraser.
It continues with a feature breed showing at the Royal Melbourne Show on Wednesday where more than 170 Simmentals are entered, before delegates tour through Albury, Canberra and Sydney, concluding this weekend.
