THE Shire of Northam voted 8-1 last night to have the Northam Recreation Centre sports hall cooled with the installation of high volume low speed fans.
Council has allocated $500,000 in the 2015/16 Budget for the project
Deputy president Terry Little spoke in favour of the move.
"Ever since the Recreation Centre has been built, it has been identified we need cooling in there," he said.
"It's now got to the point we can do something.
"We built the facility as a showpiece for the region, so if we don't do this now it will be in ten years or more at an extra cost."
Councillor Rob Tinetti said his concern was if the Shire went with the recommendation and found it was not going to work.
"I'd rather spend the money and get it done right in the first place," he said.
Crs Chris Davidson and Des Hughes also spoke in favour of the installation of the fans, expressing their opinion they would work.
Cr Little had the last word.
"We pride ourselves as a regional council, we have something here and we need to finish it off," he said.
All councillors voted for the motion with the exception of Cr Tinetti.
