PRE-poll voting commenced yesterday for Australia's July 2 Federal Election, with many set to cast early ballots.
Our electorate is Pearce, which covers outer Perth and the Avon Valley.
Pearce has been safely held by the Liberal Party since 1990, with Judy Moylan winning the seat in 1993.
She held the seat up until 2013, with Christian Porter again securing the seat for the Liberal Party in the last election.
Contesting the seat for the Labor Party is Thomas French, a trained electrician who has also completed a diploma of business at Maitland TAFE in NSW, then a Bachelor of Business at the University of Newcastle.
Lee-Anne Miles is the Greens candidate, calling it a "dream come true" to stand alongside Senators Scott Ludlam and Rachel Siewert, who are the Greens’ federal parliamentarians.
She says she is committed to supporting ethical business and farming for the long term viability of small towns and strong communities.
Buying and supporting locally grown, made and owned is a big part of her lifestyle.
Maddison Simmonds is the candidate for The Nationals.
Rise Up Australia also has a candidate running in Pearce with Taffy Samuriwo-Vuntarde.
The party has its core values on protecting Australian jobs, protecting Australian ownership, protecting the Australian way of life and protecting Australian customs.
In the 2013 Federal election, Christian Porter won 58.1 per cent of the vote after preferences, receiving 51,206 votes in total.
Labor's 2013 candiate Madeleine West came in second, with 41.9 per cent of the vote after preferences with 36,985 votes in total.
The beleaguered Palmer United Party, with Francis Hough as their 2013 candidate, received 6587 votes at the previous election.
Palmer United's Dio Wang is seeking re-election on July 2 in the senate.
Since the 2013 election, the incumbent Christian Porter has been elevated into the Federal Government, becoming the Minister for Social Services in September 2015.
