Staff and Participants from In Balance Fitness gathered to celebrate 10 years of providing Western Australia’s premier health and fitness program for Seniors - Living Longer Living Stronger, on September 8 2016.
A birthday party was held at the Northam RSL hall for all members to celebrate their achievements.
Fitness activities on the day included tai chi and balloon tennis which was free for everyone to join in.
Healthy-eating recipes were available and healthy treats as well as a birthday cake to celebrate the decade long commitment.
The party goers also received a free voucher for a fitness age assessment which determines a person’s ‘real’ age based on various health & fitness measurements.
As well as the games and activities – Merle Perrie, the longest serving participant of the club was honoured for her involvement with the program.
Ms Perrie has been a member since the club started in Northam.
In Balance Fitness owner Alex Gazis-Morris said the business is heading in a new direction.
“We are moving our entire business in the direction of the Living Longer Living Stronger program,” she said.
“We are focusing on improving functional fitness and helping people in the Northam community live their best possible lives.”
One of the new initiatives of the business is The Department of Sport and Recreation’s SilverSport program which provides discounts for local Seniors to use the Living Longer program for free.
"We are hoping more older people will come and see why we are so proud of our group and why it has been so successful for 10 years,” Ms Gazis-Morris said.
“They have a great time while living their very best,” she said.
The centre has a fully equipped gym plus additional programs including physiotherapy, pilates studio, yoga, massage therapy, reflexology, weight management programs, creche and group fitness classes.
The club is also in the process of changing the gym opening hours to 24/7 availability.
