IT has been a tough finish for Kondinin growers Lindsay (left) and Grant Tuckwell.
Like so many across the State, the frosts during September have taken a toll on their yields.
"We're pretty lucky to get anything - the frost was so bad this year," said Grant.
"We do get a bit here but not to this magnitude."
Grant and Lindsay cropped 2000 hectares of wheat, 700ha of barley, 360ha of canola and 100ha of lupins.
Their wheat crop has been the most heavily affected, with barley also experiencing losses.
"The barley yield has been hit for six - it was looking to be a 3 tonnes per hectare crop and the stubble is amazing but it's only going 1.5t/ha," Grant said.
"Even that is a miracle because there's only two to three grains per head and the rest has been zapped and there's nothing in the wheat."
But Lindsay said the canola and barley quality had been "very good".
"Most of the La Trobe barley has been going Malt 1 and we have just started the Scope which made BFED1,"she said.
"The canola was great and at 1.1t/ha it is the best we've ever grown even though the last paddock was a bit frosted."
The couple is looking forward to a break and Christmas with the family.
