The Northam Bowling Club is home to a brand new $150,000 artificial grass bowling green.
TigerTurf landscaped the new green and the older ground which is only twelve months old.
Northam members asked bowling clubs throughout Western Australia about the performance of their greens, looked at all the synthetic greens on the market and considered their options before choosing a new green.
Some clubs said their new greens were too slow, and others were displeased with the short life span of their surfaces.
Northam Bowling Club vice president John Mitchell said the bowling green they chose is state-of-the-art.
The TigerTurf website says the specific synthetic material used for the bowling green has been designed and developed to be played on in any weather conditions.
It also states the rink has a sophisticated subsoil drainage system.
Mitchell and groundsmen Ron Pitts said the speed and consistency of the new pitch makes it one of the best in the wheatbelt.
Mitchell and Pitts said the rink is ready to play on after the scoreboards are fitted.
The club has been in its current location for over 50 years and has been a Northam club for around 115 years.
The Men’s and Women’s State Singles will be held at the Northam club this Saturday and Sunday.
