Last week, saw the Northam Cricket Association take two sides down to Perth to compete at Senior Country Week 2017. The Northam No.1 side battled it out in B Section; coming away with the two wins from their five games. While, the Northam No. 2 side played in D Section and came away with the one win.
There were many solid individual performances from the Northam cricketers. See full results below. However, the highlight of the week was the Northam No.1 side knocking off eventual division leaders; Bunbury on Day 3. Bunbury batted first making a very respectable 8/289 (60). However, what followed was a record breaking and mammoth partnership of 289 runs between Bevan Bennell Junior (157*) and Kitt Byfield (116*) to get Northam (1/301) over the line in the 58th over (two overs to spare). Other outstanding performances were Troy Sims 71* on Day 1; Cameron Watson’s 4/4 (3.5) to bowl out Albany on the last day, Lachlan Pages’ 5/85 against Peel, plus consistent performances by all rounders Dan Negus and Glenn Smith.
A huge thank you and congratulations to all players, supporters and scorers that took the time to head down and represent their Association; plus all those that helped to put the teams together and organise the week. There were many laughs and a great time had by all. All players should be proud of their efforts and the spirit in which they played the game.
