THE Northam Running Club’s 2017 season kicked off last Thursday with the traditional one lap around the bridges, only this year to throw a major spanner in the works the Avon Bridge is closed.
Hence the newly added Bridges Detour Run.
The first run back had some unknowns, in that regardless of the winning time it was going to be a record time.
Could Troy Robertson finish the distance to pass 2000km for the running club even with a slight calf and why would he ever think buying pure white running shoes was ever a good idea even if it was while on holidays.
And just what would the actual distance be?
First back in a steady build up for the year was Michael Dymnicki in a time of 9:32 in what was a 2.67km distance.
Troy Robbo was second across the line with a steady hover to clock 11:06.
The decision to change running shoes before the start to a blue pair paying off. He now is slowly closing the gap to Dave Dunstan who currently sits at 3200km for the club. Robbo has 2001.22km. Still a few more years to go.
Third and just behind again, was a battle between the Willmott boys, Lachie and Brett.
Brett again luring Lachie in and smashing him at the end in the sprint for the line. Lachie just falls for it every time. Brett finished in 11:20, Lachie fourth in 11:22. Fifth went to Tayla Robertson in 14:33, Maria Matres sixth in 15:04 from Madison Dymnicki seventh in 15:16.
Kiara Willmott and Nadine Negus worked together to come across the line in 16:22.
The next Running Club meet will be this Thursday starting at 5.45pm from behind the mill for either 5km or a 2.5km distance.
Keep in mind the Avon Bridge is closed so we’ll have to get to the start from the other side of the mill. T
he run will head out to Burlong.
