THERE was a time when every Wheatbelt clearing sale started by selling the sheep, and after noting the prices received at the Lucknow Farms sale, Hines Hill, last week, it can be seen why they have persisted with their Merinos.

The first adult sheep sold were a line of 292 2.5-year-old mated Merino ewes, which after some very keen bidding, were knocked down for the day's top price of $185.
Four lines of mated ewes were offered and they were all bought by the same Landmark client who paid $178 for 221 3.5yo, $160 for 265 4.5yo, and $150 for 88 5.5 year olds.
All the ewes were Hurstdene blood and they had been running with Hurstdene rams since January 5, were January shorn and had been back-lined with Extinosad.
The sale started with ewe and wether lambs, with 317 wether lambs going to Sunpride Holdings, Jandakot for $118, while a line of 368 ewe lambs sold to RG & ME Marsh & Son, Hyden, for $144.
The sale finished with 10 Hurstdene rams being sold, with GW Allwhyte, Mukinbudin, taking three at $205 and three at $220, while W Birtles & Sons, Bodallin, took the final four at $240.
