Wubin mixed cropping and sheep farmer Boyd Carter was one of the first farmers in the northern Wheatbelt region who cranked up his seeding program last week.
Mr Carter, who farms with his father Keith and with the help of four staff, expects to be seeding until late June on his 9270 hectare property, starting sowing Mandelup variety lupins last week, that is expected to be followed by lupins.
Good subsoil moisture has kickstarted Pithara farmer Dustyn Fry’s sowing program this year.
“We’ve got significant subsoil moisture, which obviously as everyone says, gives us the confidence to keep sowing canola,” Mr Fry said.
“I think 10-15mm would actually get the crop up and away, so that’s what we’re hanging out for.”
