Off the back of the successful Hoops for Youth night back in December, the York Community Resource Centre recently held a follow up event.
Representatives from the York Police, York Community Resource Centre (CRC), the York Shire and York District High School recently teamed up to brainstorm event ideas.
What came out of this, was an event called Hoops for Youth, where in December about 40 local teenagers attended the York Recreation Centre for a game of basketball and a free sausage sizzle.
The follow up event saw slightly smaller numbers due to children having current basketball commitments in Northam on the night but York CRC senior administration officer Sarina Narkle said it would not be a deterrent for future events.
Ms Narkle worked with the Perth Wildcats to organise a hat signed by the team to be raffled off on the night with one of the kids walking away with the impressive prize.
Other sponsors included Timezone, Event Cinemas, IGA, YouthCare, York District High School, York Quality Butchers and the York Football Club.
Volunteers on the night included Jess Fisher, Tye Fisher, Brock Fisher, Jimmy Kiernan, Brodie Kiernan, Robert Macey, Ashley Garratt, Natasha Brennan and the York Police.
The York CRC is currently working on a mural on the outside wall of the basketball court, which is inspired by professions with silhouette of a basketballer, ballet dancer and race car driver to feature on the wall.
