The Avon Valley Arts Society celebrated the successful launch of the 2018 Northam Art Prize on Friday night.
With more than 115 people in attendance, artists were recognised for their work at the annual awards night.
This year there were 68 entries that will be on display at the Lesser Town Hall daily from 10am to 3pm until Sunday 9 September.
Nic Compton took out the Best in Show award for his 3D wood art piece called Walca (Canoe).
The local said he was inspired by his home country of New Zealand and that the pieces of wood were all pinned together.
It was his only entry in the show.
Mr Compton was awarded $3000 by the Shire of Northam.
Mark McClellan was awarded second place for the Best in Show category for his 3D woodwork called Para mi Esposa.

AVAS President Ulo Rumjantsev said the night saw a great turnout and a great ambiance.
“2018 has seen AVAS move ahead with new life and with renewed effort we have successfully gained a new home for the AVAS membership – the Old Girls School,” he said.
“We hope you enjoy the exhibition and we look forward to another eventful, creative and successful year for AVAs in 2019.”
