The Women’s National Basketball League will be making them way to Northam for a day filled with an up close and personal insight into the game.
The Perth Lynx will go up against Bendigo Spirit during a pre-season game at the Northam Recreation Centre on Saturday, 6 October.
Perth Lynx head coach Andy Stuart said crowds will have plenty to see and do over the course of the day.
“There four different things that will be happening on the day,” he said.
“We’re going to run a junior clinic a few hours before the game as well as some coaching education.
“I’m going spend an hour with anyone who wants to come up, but basically the local coaches chatting to them.
“We’re going to play a game so the community is going to get a really good chance to watch WNBL which is pretty high tempo and highly skilled.
“And finally there’s going to be an opportunity at the end of the game for all the community to mix with the players.
“We’re going to stay on court after the game to chat and sign autographs.”
Northam Amateur Basketball Association President Terry Bell he was excited to hear the announcement that the team will be coming to town.
“It is great to see country basketball getting the opportunity to host a game of this caliber and hopefully there will be more to come in the near future,” he said.
Association secretary Chrissy Dunkerton said players in the town will take full advantage of the experience.
“It’s wonderful to expose our local players to quality basketball and very timely with our season set to kick off on October 9,” she said.
Mr Stuart said including the regions in the game of basketball is essential to the future of the sport.
“It’s great to be able to take the game out into the regions and it really is a win-win for us,” he said.
“We get a good solid game which we desperately need and we get to expose our sport to your community.”
The game will kick off from 6.30pm on Saturday, October 6 with at the Northam Recreation Centre.
Tickets will be on sale at the door from 4pm on the day.
Adults are $10, kids are $5 and kids under 10 are free.
