NEW Cattle Council of Australia (CCA) chief executive officer Duncan Bremner has put WA on the top of his priority list.
After touring WA last month, visiting cattle producers in the State's south, saleyards, lobby groups, industry representatives and northern cattle stations, Mr Bremner said he wanted to engage with WA and have more CCA meetings here.
"I will certainly be spending more time in WA," he said.
"To be able to share what's happening over here with those in the east will bring a lot more opportunity for further cross-learning.
"We are hoping sooner rather than later, to have board meetings in WA, it's just a matter of the logistics.
"There is such a diversity within the industry in WA.
"Those producers I met have a clear business line and a real spirit of innovation in the west - it's a hidden gem."
Mr Bremner hoped to have a CCA board meeting and engage with producers and its WA board members within the year.
At the CCA committee and board meeting last week he spoke about his appreciation for WA producers.
"I was impressed with the innovation in the West," he said.
"I had no idea on the sophistication of the industry in the north."
Mr Bremner visited each station from the south of Broome to Port Hedland.
"The irrigation and cell grazing they were doing and genetics were impressive," he said.
"I think people in the east don't realise it, but all the producers I met were pragmatic people and got on with the job.
"They displayed a broader understanding of the supply chain than I see in the east, especially in live export.
"There was a real understand of the paddock to plate process."
Mr Bremner joined the CAA in December and replaced Jed Matz who served 10 years in the role.
