The town of Meckering was a buzz on Sunday, October 15 with past and present residents, history buffs and tourists flocking to the area to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the iconic Meckering Earthquake.
Braving the wet and windy conditions on Sunday those came to remember the events that shaped Meckering.
There were rides for children, stalls from local businesses, historical tours, memorabilia in the town hall and talks from the current Shire of Cunderdin President Dennis Whisson and Minister for Agriculture Alannah MacTiernan.
A commemorative beer was also popular with visitors with queues being formed to get hands on the locally produced Richter Ale.
At 10.59am on the public holiday on October, 14 1968 an earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale shook the Wheatbelt town.
At the time there were 230 residents in the town with an addition 300 living in the surrounding area.
Considerable damage was done to businesses, homes, roads and even railways.
There were no deaths but 20 people were recorded as injured.
