A PET steer was found brutally butchered at his property near Rockhampton.
Cedric the Lowline steer appeared to have been shot with a bow and arrow before its hindquarter was removed.
Detectives from the Major Organised Crime Squad Rural Rockhampton described the death as senseless, cruel and unnecessary.
They believe the killing occurred overnight on Tuesday in the Lakes Creek area.
”The animal would have died an inhumane death before having a hindquarter removed,” a police spokesman said.
Cedric’s owners told police that he was a very quiet animal, and that the beloved pet was “like a dog”.
They kept Cedric to keep grass around the property at a minimum to help to reduce fire risks.
Police have urged anyone with information to call Policelink on 131 444.
